Biography of Hasan Langgulung

Hasan Langgulung was born in Rappang, South Sulawesi on October 16, 1934. His father was Tanrasula or known as Langgulung and his mother Siti Aminah. Hasan Langgulung took the whole basic education in Sulawesi, Indonesia. He began his education in the People's School (volkschool), now the level of Primary School in Rappang, South Sulawesi. Then he continued his education at Junior High School and Middle School Muslim in Datuk Museng, Makasar from 1949 to 1952. After that, Hasan Langgulung continued his education at the Islamic School of Islamic Unity (Persis) in Bangil, East Java.
His higher education began when he left for the Middle East in 1955 to pursue education Bachelor of Arts (BA) with specialization in Islamic Studies and Arabic Literature at the Darul Ulum, Cairo University and completed in 1960. A year later he obtained his Diploma of Education (Dip.Ed) from Ein Shams University, Cairo. At Ein Shams University in Cairo, he also earned his MA in Psychology and Mental Health (Mental Hygiene) in 1967 with a thesis on Adolescent problems and their relation to personality and self concept under supervisor Prof. Dr. Mustafa Fahmy.
After finish his master, then continued his education to the West and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) from the University of Georgia, the United States in 1971. By completing the dissertation by the title A Cross Cultural Study of the Child's Conception of Situational Causality in India, Western Samoa, Mexico and the United States. The supervisor was Prof. Dr. E. Paul Torrance.
During his study at the university level Hasan Langgulung was active in student organizations and teaching. This can be evidenced when he was trusted as president of Youth and Students Association of Indonesia (HPPI) in Cairo in 1957. And between 1957 until 1967 he assumed the mandate as the principal and teacher at the Cairo School Indonesia (SIC).
Since 1971, Hasan Langgulung started living in Malaysia. He began to work especially in education and teaching. On September 22, 1972 Hasan Langgulung married Nuraimah Mohammad Yunus. The couple has three children, namely Ahmad Taufiq, Nurul Huda and Siti Zakiah.
Hasan Langgulung died on August 2, 2008 in his 73 years of age. During his life time, he has produced many articles and books on educational and psychological in various languages. Such as English, Arabic, Indonesian and Malay, even some of them translated back in to other languages such as the Philippines.
